This is a hand signed matted 8"x8" print of an original watercolor painting titled "For Ava". Each image is printed with archival inks on watercolor paper stock for a long lasting print resistant to fading. For every print sold, I will be donating 10% of the profit to wildlife rehab facilities, organizations & sanctuaries.
Ava the Female Cardinal's Story: As I was driving home on country roads one sunny afternoon, I witnessed the car in front of me collide with a female cardinal. I immediately pulled over, scooped her up and frantically started calling wildlife rehabbers. I was able to find one an hour away that would take her in and try to save her. We made the hour drive together. I sang to her, I talked to her, I told her everything would be okay. But such is life, not everything will always be okay. I had dreams of picking her back up from the rehabber and releasing her back to the area where I had found her. That was the story I wanted to tell, but unfortunately that is not my story. Ava passed away a day after I dropped her off.
Our time together was short and under tragic circumstances, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t incredibly important to me. I know many people would say, “its just a bird”, but that sort of thinking is something I will never understand. She had a life and a family just like us humans do. Every creature on this earth is important to me, they are all souls deserving of love. I know this won’t be my last experience where it ends this way, but that won’t stop me from trying to help in any way that I can.
